How much is the Age Pension in 2026?

From 20 March 2026, the full Age Pension is $1,208.80 per fortnight for a single person ($1,116.30 base pension + $78.40 Pension Supplement + $14.10 Energy Supplement). For couples, each person receives $913.30 per fortnight, for a combined total of $1,826.60.

What is the income test for the Age Pension?

Single pensioners can earn up to $204 per fortnight before their pension is reduced. Above that, the pension reduces by 50 cents for every dollar earned. Couples can earn up to $360 per fortnight combined before their pension is reduced, then it reduces by 25 cents per dollar each. The Work Bonus allows an extra $300 per fortnight of employment income to be excluded.

What is the asset test for the Age Pension in 2026?

For a single homeowner, you can have up to $301,750 in assets and receive the full pension. Above this, the pension reduces by $3 per fortnight for every $1,000 of assets, cutting off entirely at $674,000. Non-homeowners have higher thresholds ($543,750 for full pension, $916,000 cutoff). For couples, the homeowner limits are $451,500 (full) and $1,012,500 (cutoff).

What age do you need to be to get the Age Pension?

You must be at least 67 years old to qualify for the Age Pension. This applies to anyone born on or after 1 January 1957. You also need to be an Australian resident and have lived in Australia for at least 10 years, with at least 5 of those years in one continuous period.

What is the Work Bonus for Age Pension?

The Work Bonus allows Age Pension recipients to earn up to $300 per fortnight from employment before it counts as income for the income test. Unused Work Bonus amounts accumulate in a Work Bonus balance up to a maximum of $11,800. This means you could potentially earn thousands in employment income without affecting your pension.
