How much is Carer Payment in 2026?

From 20 March 2026, Carer Payment is $1,208.80 per fortnight for a single person (including Pension Supplement and Energy Supplement). Partnered carers receive $913.30 each per fortnight. These are the same rates as the Age Pension. In addition, Carer Allowance of $153.00 per fortnight is paid on top and is not income tested.

What is the difference between Carer Payment and Carer Allowance?

Carer Payment is an income support payment for people who provide constant care. It is subject to income and asset tests. Carer Allowance ($153.00 per fortnight) is a supplementary payment that is NOT income or asset tested and can be paid on top of Carer Payment or other income support payments, or even on its own if you are working.

How much can I earn on Carer Payment before it's reduced?

Singles can earn up to $204 per fortnight before Carer Payment is reduced. Above that, it reduces by 50 cents for every dollar earned. Couples have a combined income free area of $360 per fortnight, with each partner's payment reducing by 25 cents per dollar above the threshold. Carer Allowance is not affected by income.

Can I work while receiving Carer Payment?

Yes, you can work up to 25 hours per week (including travel time) and still receive Carer Payment, as long as you continue to provide constant care. Your income will be assessed under the income test, which may reduce your Carer Payment. Carer Allowance is not affected by your working hours or income.
