How much is ABSTUDY in 2026?

From 20 March 2026, ABSTUDY Living Allowance ranges from $332.90 to $762.70 per fortnight depending on your age and living arrangement. Under 18 at home: $332.90/fn. Under 18 away from home: $632.70/fn. 18+ at home: $410.60/fn. 18+ away from home: $632.70/fn. 22+ single no children: $762.70/fn. Partnered: $697.50/fn.

Who is eligible for ABSTUDY?

ABSTUDY is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who are studying an approved course (secondary school, TAFE, university) or doing an Australian Apprenticeship. You must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and be enrolled in an approved course or apprenticeship.

How much can I earn on ABSTUDY before it is reduced?

You can earn up to $150 per fortnight before your ABSTUDY Living Allowance is reduced. Between $150 and $256 your payment reduces by 50 cents for every dollar earned. Above $256 it reduces by 60 cents per dollar. If partnered, your partner's income above $1,124 per fortnight also reduces your payment.

What extra payments can I get with ABSTUDY?

On top of the Living Allowance, you may receive Rent Assistance (up to $188.20/fn), Incidentals Allowance for course costs, Remote Area Allowance ($18.20/fn), Fares Allowance for travel, and Pharmaceutical Allowance ($6.60/fn). These supplements can significantly increase your total payment.
