Which one should you choose?
The base rates are the same for both streams of Youth Allowance. The main differences are in obligations and extras. Students must maintain full-time study and can access Student Start-up Loans and relocation scholarships. Job seekers must actively look for work through Workforce Australia and meet mutual obligations. If you are studying, the student stream gives you more flexibility and access to student-specific payments. If you turn 22 as a job seeker, you move to JobSeeker Payment (higher rate). If you turn 25 as a student, you move to Austudy.
